He had surgery immediately in Los Angeles and has been undergoing rehabilitation ever since.

Although he was the former champion at two-weight UFC, he has been placed on a six-month suspension, he insists that everything is in place for his grand return.

McGregor responded to a Twitter question asking when he would fight again: "2022. I am improving rapidly!

"Working with one of the most talented teams money can buy!" "I'll be back in no-time, lock loaded!"

McGregor's two last fights against Poirier were at lightweight. He previously returned to UFC 2020 at welterweight.

He defeated Donald Cerrone (38), in his second win at 170lb. In 2016, he also beat Nate Diaz (36), in their rematch after losing their first.

McGregor could make a comeback at welterweight if he does.

He tweeted: "Quite possible. Yes."

McGregor, 33, was relegated to lightweight in January by Poirier 32. He had previously defeated McGregor in 2014.

The pair were set up for a blockbuster trio bout at UFC 264, but it ended in chaos.

McGregor was injured in his leg seconds before round one ended. He lost by doctor stoppage.

This unprecedented end has opened the doors to a FOURTH fight between McGregor & Poirier.

"Poirier will do his job until Conor is ready."
