UFC chief Dana White anticipates that The Notorious will be back in the cage next season

McGregor, 33 years old, has resumed exercise after a successful operation and will soon be able to resume training full-time in April.

White stated that Conor has been out for one year during a appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.

"The doctor stated that it would take nine months for him to start training again. We're considering it a year.

"I don't even think about it."

The UFC's first simultaneous world champion at two weight broke his leg just seconds before Poirier ended the first round.

White believes that the way the fight ended is worthy of a fourth encounter, saying: "The fight did not get finished."

"You cannot have a fight end that way. We'll watch how the whole thing unfolds. We don't know how long Conor will be out.

"Poirier will do his job until Conor is ready."

Poirier, the former interim lightweight champion, is open to sharing the cage again with The Notorious but feels their rivalry is over from an economic standpoint.

According to him, he believes he has proven himself the superior fighter twice here. But we'll wait and see what happens (about a fourth fight).

"I don’t know when he’s coming back. He has a long recovery and a long road ahead.

"I'm the next in line to a title shot, but it's difficult to predict what's going in the future. I don't know."

It is not known when McGregor broke his fibula and tibia, but McGregor claimed that he entered the Sin City Series decider with multiple stress fractures.

In a six-minute Instagram video, he stated: "The leg has never been better."

"I was hurt going into the fight. People ask me when the leg was broken.

"At what point did it break?" Dana White asks. Ask the UFC. Dr. Davidson is the UFC's head doctor.

"They knew that I had stress fractures in the leg before I went into the cage.

"There was some debate about taking the thing out, because I was sparring with no shin pads and I would kick my knee a few times.

"So, I suffered multiple stress fractures above my ankle in the shin bone and then I still have problems with my ankle after all these years of fighting."
