KHABIB NURMAGOMEDOV has doubled down on his retirement, further stifling Conor McGregor's hopes for a rematch.
After a win over Justin Gaethje, the former lightweight champion dropped his gloves in October. However, he flirted with returning earlier in the year.
Khabib Nurmagomedov announced that he would be retiring at UFC 254
last October.
The undefeated Russian won't renege on his promise to his mother not to compete anymore, and he doesn't intend to break it.
ESPN quoted him as saying, "Nothing and no one [can] bring me back].
McGregor's bitter rival McGregor will be hurt by Nurmagomedov’s comments. McGregor has been determined to exact revenge on the Eagle since their 2018 grudge match.
McGregor was annoyed by the announcement of the future UFC Hall-of-Famer's resignation, three months after his father and coach Abdulmanap died.
The Irishman stated in January that it was "baffling" to me how you could leave at this stage. Each person will have to decide for themselves.
"There are so many incredible fights out there. It's not enough to just skip bouts.
It's the hallmark of his approach.
"I wasn't surprised to see him leave or run away, I should add. It's what it is. We keep going."
Nurmagomedov (33), is currently focusing on his mixed martial arts promotion, Eagle Fighting Championship, and coaching his teammates.
Isla Makhachev, the Dagestani’s long-time training partner as well as good friend, is close to a title shot. He'll likely get it if he beats Beneil Darush in early next year.
Nurmagomedov is certain that Makhachev will be the next ruler of the division he once controlled.
He stated that he had a goal to regain the belt. His name is Islam Makachev.
"He must take the. Belt back to Dagestan. And I believe in his abilities. He can do it.
"I believe that by the end of next years, we'll be able to take this belt home."
