The UFC threatened to sue Francis Ngannou's agent for alleged discussions with Jake Paul's manager.
Ngannou, 34 years old, was open to the idea of switching to boxing after his UFC 270 victory against Ciryl Gane.
Francis Ngannou kept his heavyweight title at UFC 270
Marquel Martin, Cameroonian's manager, received an email from the promotion hours before the bout. It stated that he had spoken with Paul's manager Nakisa Bidarian about boxing under Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions banner.
Ngannou, during a appearance on The MMA Hour, said: "I walked in the room waiting for [my manager] and my coach.
"And they were like, ‘Wow.’ I was like, ‘What’s going on?’
"They said they received an email from UFC stating that they are going to sue Martin for speaking with this man, Nakisa.
"Yeah. "Yeah. '"
Ngannou claims he doesn't know who Bidarian is, the former chief financial officer of the UFC.
He stated, "I wouldn’t recognize him if he was in front of me."
ESPN reached out to Martin, Bidarian and the UFC for comment.
Ngannou, heavyweight king, will become a free agent in December. He will be open to receiving offers from interested parties.
Although the Predator would like to keep his UFC stint, he would like to see his contract amended to allow him to get more money and box freely as an independent contractor.
He stated, "The contract's term, all they have put into it, they keep you like they do in captivity.
"You don't have any rights, and you can't do anything." The contract is unilateral.
"You don’t even have any health insurance while doing this. You’re putting your life on the line to put on the show. You are taking on everything."
Later, he added that "You can be free while fighting for the UFC. I want to be free.
"We are supposedly independent contractors. Technically, an independent contractor is a person who is not dependent on another.
"That's why they need to make some changes in that contract. This is what I have been fighting for.
After Cameroonian's successful defense of the title, Dana White, UFC president, decided not to wrap Ngannou's heavyweight title around his waist. He also missed the post-fight press conference.
According to Ngannou the promotion has yet to contact him to discuss the possibility that he would sign a new contract.
He stated, "It doesn’t seem like they want me to talk to them anymore."
