Now the former Bellator champion wants to welcome McGregor back into the UFC with a box office blockbuster.
He told TMZ: “If Conor’s coming back anytime soon, I think me and Conor would make some fireworks and it’s a fight that fans want to see.
“I think it’s the biggest fight we can make in mixed martial arts right now and I try to say that as humble as possible but I think it’s a huge fight.”
McGregor, 34, has spent the last year recovering from the broken leg he suffered in the first round of his trilogy against Dustin Poirier, 33.
Chandler meanwhile, 36, signed for the UFC in 2021 and has won two of his four bouts.
He sent shockwaves into the lightweight division in May after a front kick brutally knocked out Ferguson, 38, and left him almost unrecognisable.
McGregor opened the door to fighting Chandler afterwards but the American is unsure of when a potential bout could come to fruition.
He said: “The guy snapped his leg.
“It wasn’t a small injury, it required surgery, maybe multiple surgeries, a titanium rod going in, and all that stuff.
“I’m not gonna throw stones at the guy. I mean the guy completely shattered his leg and it was literally just a year ago.
“Have people come back quicker than he’s gonna come back? Yes, probably, but also we don’t know the extent of Conor’s injury.”
