A LOT OF UFC fighters are calling for the banning of oblique kicks after Modestas Bakauskas' terrible knee injury during his fight with Khalil Rountree Jr.
Rountree Jr's terrible stomp in round two of UFC Vegas 36 saw the Baltic Gladiator's knee ripped apart.
After seeing Bukauskas in pain, referee Herb Dean immediately canceled the contest.
Rountree's perfectly placed oblique kick is divisive and many fighters believe they should avoid it because of the potential damage it can do.
After seeing the disastrous effects it had on Bukauskas, a number of UFC athletes called for its prohibition.
Max Griffin, a Welterweight contender, stated that while technically legal, he doesn't believe it is right. This should not be used in streetfight situations.
Michael Johnson, the mainstay lightweight fighter, said that they had just discussed this @fightclub. This should be banned.
"Cheap bulls**t. To brag about it, is a bit of trash."
Belal Muhammad stated: "Ahh, that technique should be prohibited. This is career-changing.
Jamahal Hill, a light-heavyweight prospect, said that "that's exactly why that sh*t shouldn't be permitted!" H*e s**t! H*e s**t!
Vinc Pichel, Lightweight: He said that he doesn't care about being unpopular for doing this but that the bulls**t kick should not be allowed.
Rountree spoke out about the devastating strike after the fight, saying that he didn't use it in training camp with the same intent and threw it today because he doesn't want it to hurt his training partners.
"I knew that he was heavy on his front foot when he threw the jab. It was then that I threw it, and it hit the ground.
Khalil Rountree Jr uncorks a hellacious oblique kick
Although the extent of Bukuauskas' knee damage is unknown at this time, Michael Bisping, commentator, said that Bukuauskas was believed to have torn his ACL, MCL and PCL ligaments.
Bukauskas (27 years old) took to social media on Sunday morning, but did not provide any updates on his injury.
On his Instagram Story, he wrote: "Thanks to all for the messages and support. I appreciate you all."
Rountree wrote that he was overwhelmed by many emotions and reflected on his victory on social media.
"But I'm thankful for your support.
"Fighting is not without its downs. Although it's fun for the masses, it's f *****g risky and anything could happen.
"I spoke to my opponent after the match, and wished him speedy recovery. He will come back stronger than ever as great fighters do.
"Again, thank you all."
