A MMA fighter died following sustaining a head injury in a fight in Brazil.
Lucas Gabriel Peres, 22, was taken to the hospital after a bout and died on Saturday.
He is reported to have suffered from headaches after the K-1 match-up in Maringa's southern region on September 11.
Peres returned from Peabiru after a short trip, but his family was concerned and took him to Campo Mourao hospital.
The youngster's condition began to deteriorate and he was transferred from his home to the Hospital Metropolitano de Sarandi.
According to Brazilian outlet G1., he was pronounced dead on Saturday. His death certificate stated that he had suffered a head injury.
Although they have not yet commented on Peres' death, the organizers of the event are believed to be in touch with his family.
Local medical authorities are currently preparing a report to investigate further the cause of his death.
Medical experts raised concerns about the safety of fighters participating in MMA.
Former World Rugby medical advisor Barry O'Driscoll was a relative to Irish legend Brian and called for more care regarding head injuries in the sport.
He said, "We all know the concerns that can be caused by head injuries. We also know the concerns that can be associated with mild head injuries or mild concussion.
"And yet, we are seeing people rendered unable after being struck around the head. Is this the kind of world we live in?
