Pacquiao Returns to the Ring
Manny Pacquiao, the former eight-weight world champion, has officially come out of retirement. The Filipino boxer hung up his gloves in September 2021 after losing his WBA welterweight title fight with Yordenis Ugas. However, Pacquiao made a return to the ring in December 2022 for an exhibition bout against South Korean DK Yoo. Now, he's set to face Muay Thai legend Buakaw in a second exhibition in April.
Teasing a Rematch with Mayweather
Pacquiao recently teased a rematch with long-time rival Floyd Mayweather, and his manager Sean Gibbons has added fuel to the fire. Gibbons stated that Pacquiao is no longer a retired fighter and plans to stick around for one more year. He also revealed that Pacquiao is targeting some of the biggest names in the sport, including Gervonta Davis, Ryan Garcia, and Conor McGregor.
A Potential Showdown with McGregor
A matchup between Pacquiao and UFC superstar Conor McGregor has been talked about for years but has yet to materialize. McGregor called out Pacquiao last December, challenging him to a lucrative showdown in Saudi Arabia. Gibbons insists that Pacquiao is more than up for the crossover clash and sees a professional return for the Filipino boxer. He believes the fight would be sensational and a great event for Saudi Arabia.
McGregor, who hasn't fought since breaking his leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021, is set to return to the octagon against Michael Chandler later this year.
