NATE DIAZ will RETIRE from mixed martial arts after a grudge match against Dustin Poirier.
Favorite Diaz is still on contract with the MMA champion and is eager to return to the cage.
Nate Diaz still has one fight on his UFC contract, and is eager
to get it done.
to meet Dustin Poirier.
For several months, the Ultimate Fighter Season Five winner had his sights set on Poirier in a showdown.
After finally sharing the cage, he wants to close the curtains on his legendary career.
He stated to TMZ that he would like to fight Dustin Pourier like now.
"If there is a mix-up, it will be him and them as well as the game. I want to fight right now. What's up?
"Dana White! Let's get this retirement fight going so I can get out this fight game. It's over.
Poirier, an ex-interim lightweight champion, is keen to fight again and hopes the UFC will book it for this summer.
He stated that he believed there was a good chance of it happening this summer.
"I believe summer is a good goal, if I had one. It's going to happen, I believe."
Two-and-a-half years ago, Poirier and Diaz were scheduled to take on Poirier at UFC 230 in New York.
Poirier sustained a hip injury that ended their eagerly awaited Madison Square Garden matchup.
The retirement plans of Diaz after facing Poirier could mean that MMA fans will never see a three-fighter between him and his bitter rival Conor McGregor.
They were 36 and 33 years respectively when they took part in two memorable UFC fights in 2016. Diaz won their first encounter, while McGregor narrowly beat them in their second.
In the years since their UFC 202 victory, McGregor and Diaz have traded verbal jabs repeatedly.
Since his UFC 263 loss to Leon Edwards in June, Diaz is an MMA veteran.
McGregor has been watching from the sidelines since breaking his left foot in the UFC 264 rubber match against Poirier last July.
Poirier, the former interim 155lb titleholder, was last seen in action at UFC 269 last December. He suffered a third-round submission loss to undisputed champ Charles Oliveira.
