STEVIE RAY wants to make history as Britain's first MMA champion since Michael Bisping - and the only Professional Fighters League winner.
Manchester's Bisping, the first British fighter to win UFC Gold in 2016, cemented his place as a historical figure.
Scottish MMA Stevie Ray wants to win the $1m PFL Season
Michael Bisping won UFC Gold in 2016.
Since then, no one has been able to achieve the same feat in the UFC or any other major promotion around the globe.
In the semi-finals of the 2022 PFL season, Scotland's Ray is determined to change this.
Anthony Pettis, an ex-UFC champion, will be his opponent in a rematch. A win places him in the PFL final fight where $1million is up for grabs.
Ray has the opportunity to be next to Bisping and make $1m more.
SunSport quoted him as saying: "I believe there's only one champion in MMA, and that's Michael Bisping."
"Obviously you have some boxers who have won world titles like Josh Taylor, but when it comes to MMA, there aren't any other.
"And the PFL, even Anthony Pettis left the UFC to join PFL as they offered more money.
"Now, I'm only two fights away not just from the $1million but also a legitimate world title. Your work ethic is what gives you confidence, and my work ethic is unmatched.
"I worked hard and believe that I am worthy of it. So I'm here to get it."
The PFL is a two-bout season in which points are earned for each method of victory. The top four qualify for semis.
Alex Martinez beat Ray 32 to 0. Ray was stunned by Pettis 35 with a second round submission.
He earned five points for his effort and was able to secure a place in the final four in New York where he rematches Pettis immediately.
After a body triangle, the American had to be forced to stop and was left with a broken rib.
Ray believes he has a mental advantage, as well as a physical one, because he can complete the task in a very short time and doesn't have much time to rest.
He stated, "I'm going in his head a bit, because it was only five week ago that I beat him."
"There was pressure on him, I was underdog in the fight, and obviously got victory, he's now battling me again six weeks later.
"I feel good, my body feels good, I came out from that fight uninjured and was back to training."
Ray said, "It will affect the cartilage in his spines, so it is uncomfortable.
"I'm certain his ribs are fine, but it's the training that is going to be affected.
"He would have to be careful when he began training again, as all of this is psychological war.
"It's going be in his head that he hasn’t been able train as hard as usual because of his rib injuries.
"And while he does that, the man who beat him is training harder. I'm going in stronger, sharper, and better for this fight.
