UFC President Dana White has stopped a possible trilogy fight between Amanda Nunes & Valentina Shevchenko. He claimed that he doesn’t see the point of the pair sharing the octagon once again.
Nunes, a two-division champion, has beaten all comers at 135 & 145lbs to the point that MMA fans are anxious to see her again tested by Shevchenko, dominant flyweight queen.
In their first encounter at UFC 196
, Amanda Nunes defeated Valentina Shevchenko.
saw The Lioness retain her 135lb belt.
White doesn't want to see the two of them again, despite Shevchenko being down 2-0 in their series.
TSN spoke with the veteran promoter, saying: "I don’t know if this fight needs to take place. "I don't know.
It's something I have thought about a lot. Both of them are incredible at their weights.
"They have already fought twice." "Why do it again?"
White admitted that he is not currently open to booking a third Nunes-vs. Shevchenko fight, but he would be open to it if the couple - and their fans - campaign for it.
He stated that he would imagine doing it if the fans wanted it badly enough. However, I don't see any point in it.
Although Nunes is currently two fights ahead of her flyweight counterpart in the rivalry, both bouts were extremely close.
The Brazilian won their UFC 196 showdown in 2016 via unanimous decision, but was in serious trouble in the third round.
The Lioness won a split-decision win over the Kyrgyzstani–Peruvian in their 2017 UFC 215 rematch. Many believed Shevchenko had won.
After her failed bid to take the bantamweight crown, Shevchenko was forced to drop to flyweight and has never looked back - she has dominated her eight previous opponents in succession.
White is hesitant about pitting Nunes against the queen of 125lb for the third time because of the difference in size between the two.
Later, he added that Valentina was unfair because Amanda Nunes is much bigger than her.
She can fight with [135] and [145]-pound women.
"Valentina is without a doubt one of the most evil women in the world, in both her weight and below.
"But to lift that much weight. Yes, she can hang.
"Will it be a split decision?" It's hard to say.
