After being criticised for his work at UFC Vegas 40, Aspen Ladd's coach has to apologize.
The ESPN broadcast picked up Jim West, Ladd's boyfriend and gave harsh words to his fighter during her defeat to Norma Dumont in a unanimous decision.
Between rounds, West attacked Aspen's performance
After round three, West declared: "You're down 3-1." "Please tell us what you are doing.
"You can't throw just one punch. You must win the fight, and you must finish it.
His corner work caused a lot of controversy, with Miesha Tate, former UFC bantamweight champion, calling it 'abuse.
West now offers an apology via social media.
He said on Instagram: "Tonight wasn't our night. It has been our night many times before at the highest levels, but not tonight.
"I blame myself. It may not be my fault. It's not up to debate. I am the one to blame.
"Yes, after the first few rounds I was a bit harsh, but I know Aspen. Technical conversation was not in the cards at that time.
"Nevertheless, I accept it and I am sorry Aspen. I will continue to improve each time."
Social media were unsure if West's work in the corner was too harsh that night.
One fan commented: "It's difficult to comment without understanding their dynamic. Although it doesn't help me, and it seems harsh, they may find that that's the best way to work. She might respond to that best, etc.
Another added, "This is his job. It is something I respect. He must do his best to get his fighter mentally on track. She didn't look mentally ready last night.
Ladd, 26, has a professional MMA record of nine wins and two losses.
She was determined to win the future, despite losing to Dumont.
She replied, "Not my night. Congratulations to my opponent. We will be back stronger.
"In the interim, I finally got back in there after almost two years.
"Now is the time to step back, take some deep breaths, and get back at fighting and feeling like me again. We're moving on to the next.
