The cut was taken by the UFC fighter during a FURY Pro Grappling contest - a submission-only contest

Esparza, an American fighter, was left with a severe gash above her eyes. The fight had to be stopped.

Kelly won the submission-only bout due to the accidental cut.

Esparza posted a photo of the terrible injury to Instagram following the fight.

"In good spirits! I just need to get a few stitches. Thank you @furygrappling and @daniellekellybjj, for having me.

Kelly stated that Kelly was wishing @carlaesparza1 speedy recovery. She and I were not expecting it. We may have to rematch the match in the future, if necessary.

"Honestly, I was confused and feeling a lot of adrenaline. It was a great experience to be a part of such a big event.

"I'm also just geeking out about this mark on my forehead lol. I want to thank everyone who supported me and my sponsors. Thank you @furygrappling @ufcfightpass."

After Kelly's initial opponent Rose Namajunas tested positive for Covid-19, Esparza won the FURY Pro Grappling Submission fight.

In the UFC, Dana White confirmed that Esparza was worthy of a chance at a world title.

ESPN reported that she was '100%' in line to receive a shot at Namajunas strawweight belt.

She has won five consecutive fights in the UFC and will face Namajunas once more inside the octagon.

They fought their first fight in 2014, Esparza winning to become the UFC strawweight champion.

Although she lost her belt in 2015, her eyes remain fixed on the future and hope to regain it.

The date of the rematch has yet to be determined, but UFC is still on track for world glory.
