Garry shared that he still retains a letter from his mother disapproving of him, which he revealed to Garry ahead of his promotion debut. It was from the time he quit college to pursue a career as a fighter.

It said: "I won't support anyone who loses sight of themselves and seeks the easy way out."

"Being Conor McGregor's next is not a plan."

McGregor reached out to McGregor via Twitter after hearing about Garry's story. He wrote: "Ian. My parents said something very similar back in the day!" "It cannot be done."

"Ask them now, what do they think?" My man, prove them wrong, and you're right! Enjoy it all!

He also wrote, "Good luck to Ireland’s Ian Garry who will be making his UFC debut tonight in MSG!" It's the stuff of dreams, my man!

"A young, solid fighter from Ireland to keep an eye on
??

"Let's go @iangarryMMA!"

Garry, who is still only 23 years old and has a 7-0 record shows that he understands the enormity of his chance.

His mother is now aboard, and he said to the BBC that he understood the gravity of the situation. This is something I am beyond thrilled about.

It's crazy to be in New York and make my UFC debut at 23 years old. It's something we've talked about for years.

Garry, welterweight, stated to SunSport that McGregor's comparisons were "four of the top five pay-per-views." He is insane. He did unbelievable things.

Everyone is saying, "Oh, they want to find the next Conor." They want to find the next Conor. It's fine with me.

"But don’t get me wrong, my plan is set and I have my goals. I know what's ahead.

"But, if people want me to be compared to someone who has had a greatest effect on the sport and made the most positive change in terms of bringing attention to it, they can do so.

"And they don't mind me being the poster boy, and they're looking to someone to wear a mantle like that."
